  1.  YOU ARE FREE TO USE INFORMATION AND IDEAS
    You can gather information from various sources and recount it in your own words. Remember to provide source references!
  2. PERMISSION IS REQUIRED TO USE IMAGES AND TEXTS
    You may be allowed to use images and texts:

    in the form of quotations
    When you use another person’s text word for word, it is considered a quote. Mark the quote with quotation marks and a source reference.

    with the creator’s permission
    You can request permission directly from the creator or copyright holder.

    with ICLA’s copying licence
    You may scan images and text from books and copy from the internet for school/college projects as long as you do not publish your work online. Remember to credit the creator in your work.

    with a CC (Creative Commons) licence
    The licence symbol indicates what you are allowed to do. CC licence symbols and the creator’s name should be included next to the image.

    Works whose protection period has expired can be used freely.
  3. FILMING AND PHOTOGRAPHY
    Ask the individuals appearing in the pictures for permission to publish and use the images.
  4. MUSIC IN A VIDEO
    The education exception of the Copyright Act allows you to use music without obtaining specific permission in school/college projects if the video is only shown in class and not published online or on social media.
    You can also search for music made available under a CC licence online. Read the terms of use carefully.
  5.  A VIDEO AS PART OF YOUR OWN WORK
    The education exception of the Copyright Act allows you to use audiovisual works without obtaining specific permission in school/college projects if the video is only shown in class and not published online or on social media.
    You can search for videos made available under a CC licence online. Read the terms of use carefully.
    You can also create a link to a video that is legally available online.
  6.  REFERENCING
    Remember to reference the source material you have used and provide information about the creators in your project.
  7. PUBLISHING A PROJECT ONLINE
    If you want to make your project available online, make sure you have the right to publish all the content, such as images, music, and videos, that you have used.
